Gather
1 cucumber
filling (see options below)
12 green grapes
12 red grapes
toothpicks
1 peeled carrot
Go
1. With a parent’s help, cut a thin slice from each end of cucumber. Cut cucumber in half lengthwise.
2. Cut each half into 3- to 5-inch pieces.
3. Scoop out seeds to hollow out each canoe.
4. Fill canoes with one tablespoon of creamy filling (see options below).
5. Poke toothpick through one green and one red grape to make a person’s head and body. Push the toothpick into the canoe.
6. Cut carrot into small strips to make oars. Poke an oar into the filling on each side of the grape people.
7. Enjoy this healthy snack on a hot summer day!
Italian Cream Cheese Spread
Gather
1/2 cup whipped cream cheese
1 tablespoon chopped black olives
dash of basil and oregano
Go
1. Mix cream cheese, olives, basil and oregano.
2. Chill until ready to serve.
Egg Salad Spread
Gather
2 hard-boiled eggs, peeled
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 teaspoon relish
1 teaspoon mustard
salt and pepper to taste
Go
1. Mash eggs with a fork.
2. Stir in other ingredients.
3. Chill until ready to serve.
Tuna Salad Spread
Gather
5 ounces canned tuna, drained
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon relish
2 tablespoons diced celery
pepper to taste
Go
1. Mix all ingredients together.
2. Chill until ready to serve.
Chicken Salad Spread
Gather
10 ounces canned chicken, drained
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon milk
3 tablespoons diced celery
1/4 cup chopped grapes
salt and pepper to taste
Go
1. Combine all ingredients.
2. Chill mixture for 30 minutes, then serve.
