Dr. Sharen Ford

Dr. Sharen Ford is the director for Focus on the Family’s foster care and adoption efforts. In this role, she helps raise awareness of the need for adoptive families to provide loving and stable homes for the more than 100,000 waiting children in the U.S. foster care system. She also makes post-placement resources available for adoptive families.   

Prior to her current role, Dr. Ford worked for child welfare services at the Colorado State Department of Human Services where she served as the manager for permanency services. She is the former president of the National Association of State Adoption Programs (NASAP).

Dr. Ford has spoken at a variety of conferences on adoption and foster care issues including Evangelicals for Life, the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) annual conference, the White House Conference on Adoption and the Federal Children’s Bureau Child Welfare Conference.

She has also done radio, print and TV interviews with various media outlets including Bott Radio Network, CBN TV and The Denver Post.

Dr. Ford has won a number of awards including the Paul Singer Award from the Congressional Coalition for Adoption Institute; the Adoption Activist Award from the North American Council for Adoptable Children; the Adoption Excellence Award from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services; and the Minority Adoption Leadership Development Institute Award.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Benedictine College, she went on to obtain a Master of Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis and a doctorate in counseling psychology from Cornerstone University.

She lives in Aurora, Colorado, has one daughter, and loves watching her grandson play sports. She also enjoys traveling and wants to see Egypt, Israel, Australia and Fiji. She hopes to go on mission trip to Africa, as well.
